I have always loved to create things.
Drawings, paintings, packaging design, corporate identities, press ads, posters, radio commercials, tv ads, shoes, mosaics, product designs and sculpture.
The underlying theme of all my work is storytelling. Whether through a quiet, one-to-one connection with someone interacting with a piece of my sculpture or a mass public interaction with a campaign I’ve created. For me it’s not enough to make something that is aesthetically pleasing, I want to make you feel something. Maybe just a smile of recognition or a memory of a time the viewer felt the same emotion I am trying to project. I simply strive to make my work relatable.
I did my foundation and degree at St Martins School of Art. St Martins opened up a world of creativity and curiosity which I have carried into my own work. Something I tried to pass on with enthusiasm to my students at Central St Martins where I’ve been an associate lecturer for almost three decades. I am still a mentor at CSM.
My own practise for the last 10 years has centred around sculpture. Working in clay I love to tell little three-dimensional stories that are both informal and reflective. My current fascinations are expression and texture and try to use both in each piece to create a narrative. The majority of my work is kiln fired and then patinated though I have also experimented with casting in both jesmonite and bronze resin.
I have been exhibiting my work since 2021, which has been a wonderful positive experience, at the Fitzrovia gallery, with the Royal Society of British Artists at The Mall gallery and of course Chelsea Art Society.
