Biography
Described as one of ‘the leading plein air painters in the UK’ by Artists and Illustrators magazine, Roy Connelly works outside throughout the year and in all weather conditions painting exclusively in oils. A professional painter, he has featured in several outdoor painting articles and books.
Most of his paintings are completed entirely on location. He paints in oils on small boards or large canvases, often capturing his subject in a single session as he attempts to capture a sense of time as well as place. Larger works may be painted in a number of sessions, only rarely does he paint in his studio. He can be found painting the wide open views of East Anglia, on the streets of London and Venice, and along the coastlines of England and Wales.
He is married to the novelist Victoria Connelly and now lives in rural Suffolk, close to the former homes of renowned English painters, John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough.
He exhibits widely and his work can be found in corporate and private collections in the United Kingdom, USA, France, Belgium and Germany.
