Welcome

Founded in 1910, The Chelsea Art Society is the oldest and sole survivor of the many art groups that blossomed in the area around that period. Rossetti and Turner began the trend to settle in Chelsea in the mid 19th Century, followed by Whistler, Sickert, Augustus John and John Singer Sargent. Amongst the group was Sir James Dromgole Linton, a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and an Honorary member of the Scottish Water Colour Society. He chose Chelsea as the place to found an art group to exhibit annually.

Alice Boggis-Rolfe winning painting Sloane Stanley Medal

The Sloane Stanley Medal and Exhibition

The Chairman of Trustees of Sloane Stanley, Damian Greenish, and the President of Chelsea Art Society, Luke Martineau, announced earlier this year that they would be collaborating on a new exhibition for CAS painter members only.

Entitled 'An Artist's Chelsea' this exhibition was sponsored by Sloane Stanley and took place at 340 Kings Road from June 19th-24th, 2018.

It was also announced that Sloane Stanley would have created a new prize as an award: The William Sloane Medal, worth £1000. This is given in memory of the founder the Sloane Stanley Estate: William Sloane. This award, available to painter members of Chelsea Art Society, is designed to encourage excellence in the disciplines of painting, drawing or printmaking. We are delighted that this was won by Alice Boggis-Rolfe. Her painting 'Tea and biscuits in Green and Stone' shown on the right.
